Last week Google announced that its own design for self-driving cars is currently in a prototype phase and plans to build around 100 early versions of the vehicles for testing this summer. The self-driving cars are equipped without a steering wheel or pedals and fit two people. Initially, the cars will include manual controls in case something goes wrong.
Google’s goal is to develop vehicles that are safer than the ones driven by humans. 33,000 Americans die on motor vehicles collisions each year. Google believes they can trim this number by as much as 90% using this technology that can sense and react to things faster than humans.
