Every year hundreds of thousands of people die as a result of unintentional injuries, and millions more are treated in emergency rooms across the country. June is National Safety Month, we encourage you to utilize the opportunity to learn more about how you can promote safety and reduce the likelihood of preventable injuries in your home and community.
The first theme of National Safety Month was ‘Stand up to Falls’. Fall down injuries are common and can be very serious. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports falls are the most common cause of traumatic brain injuries, including concussions. The National Safety Council offered the following tips for preventing fall down injuries:
- Secure electrical and phone cords away from walking areas, such as hallways or in front of your desk
- Clean up any spills immediately and include warning signage if necessary
- Refrain from walking while distracted – stay focused on your surroundings
- Ensure there is adequate lighting in your workspace. Click here to read more.
