It has been less than a week since two serious but unrelated crashes on I-84 in Orange County. The crashes, which both occurred in the same area, resulted in one fatality and nearly two dozen injuries. The crashes prompted the Department of Transportation (DOT) to review what, if anything could have been done to prevent the crashes. Both incidents occurred just outside of Newburgh in a highway work zone.
Moving forward the DOT plans to add more signage to warn drivers of work zones. The DOT will also lower the speed limit around work zones. Drivers, please keep your mind and focus on the road. Being prepared for the unexpected, like encountering a work zone, could prove to be life saving. For more information about work zone safety click here.
