By Kimberly Leonard, US News & World Report: The chief of the Veterans Affairs Department is preparing sweeping changes to the agency in response to massive scandals that were discovered earlier this year. Because of government bureaucracy, however, the changes will not go into effect for some time.
VA Sec. Robert McDonald outlined his plan in an interview that aired Sunday with “60 Minutes” on CBS News.
At least 35 people will be fired and more than 1,000 are facing “aggressive, expeditious” disciplinary action. The names of the 35 employees were given to the VA committees in both the House and Senate, and all firings have to go through a judge. The changes are said to be one of the biggest reorganization in the VA’s history.
