The February 3rd Metro-North train crash reminds us all to keep safety at the forefront of our minds while traveling. Luckily emergencies are rare on the MTA Metro-North Railroad, but we should all take a few minutes to memorize these helpful tips:
- Read the safety signage and familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Take note as to where your closest exits are, and how to operate them.
- Report an emergency immediately. Use the two-way intercom system located near the doors, where provided.
- In the event of an emergency do not attempt to leave the train on your own – It may be your first instinct but remember there are other dangers such as electrified tracks and other moving trains and vehicles. If you are unable to stay in the car you are on, walk calmly to another car that is safer.
- Follow instructions provided by the train crew, or rescue workers (Fire, Police).
Remember: Stay Calm! Think Clearly! Follow Instructions of Crew.
