By Emily Wax-Thibodeaux: The Washington Post: Robert McDonald, the newly appointed secretary of the sprawling and scandal-tainted Department of Veterans Affairs, announced a 90-day reform plan Monday, promising to put former troops at the heart of his strategy.
Invoking Abraham Lincoln’s promise to care for the nation’s veterans, McDonald announced a reform effort dubbed, “The Road to Veterans Day,” which aims to repair a variety of failings that came to light this spring when employees allegedly falsified wait times — even as veterans endured extensive delays at the Phoenix VA Health Care System.
